We fit and weld steel structures on cruise ships

We work as subcontractors on board ships under construction. We take on work on the open decks: supports for glass windscreens, stairs, railings. Where required, we install the glass as well.

What we do

Welder with the Solanord logo on his back, at a railing post on a steel stair

Steelwork and welding on board

Parts are fitted in position and welded on the ship itself, from scaffolding or from the deck.

  • Supports for glass windscreens
  • Window posts
  • External stairs and railings
  • MIG/MAG welding, welds ground clean

Subcontracting for shipyards

We work for shipyards, main contractors and ship outfitting companies. We take on a portion of the work and carry it out with our own team.

How we work

  1. We agree the scope

A deck area or a type of structure. We work to the drawings supplied.

  2. We bring the team

The welders and fitters come with their own foreman.

  3. We fit and weld on board

The welds stay visible after painting, so we grind them clean.

  4. We install the glass

The panels are lifted by the yard crane on a vacuum lifter and set in place by hand. At height we work in harnesses, clipped to a lifeline.

  5. We hand over the work

Our foreman answers for our portion of the work until it is handed over.

Completed work

The raked supports were fitted and welded on board, then we installed the glass panels between them.

The glass panels were lowered one at a time into the bays of the steel grid. The team worked on the beams.
